M/S K.P.Enterprises Meeting No. 20/81 F.No.01/81/162/783/AM11/DESII Dated: 09.08.2011 Clarification regarding Titanium Di Oxide as an opacifier used in Ceramic Industry under K74 norms Decision : The above case was considered and NC decided that clarification given by DIPP in its M.No. 41/81 dated 04.01.2011 (held on 18.01.2011) in the case of M/s Bharat Enteprises may be referred in the above case also. The clarification is as under: Titanium Dioxide is the most widely used white pigment. It has a very high refractive index. As a pigment, it provides whiteness and opacity to products such as paints and coatings (including glazes and enamels), plastics, paper, inks, fibres and cosmetics. But it is a costlier item. In the country generally Zirconium Silicate is used as opacifier for manufacturing glazes which is applied to sanitary ware.
