DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF FOREIGN TRADE DES‐VI (FOOD & MISC) Minutes of the meeꬅng NC‐VI held on 31.7.2008 The Meeꬅng No. 15/AM09 for the licensing year 2008‐09 to consider the cases under Duty Exempꬅon Schemes (Chapter‐4) of Foreign Trade Policy 2004‐09 pertaining to Misc. &Food Products was held on 31.7.08 under the chairmanship of Shri Anil Aggarwal, Jt. DGFT in  his chamber.

NC‐VI Dated 31.7.2008 Party’s Name: M/s. Dhampur Speciality Sugar Ltd. New Delhi Meeꬅng No. & Date 15/09 dt. 31.7.2008   Status Deferred HQ File No.  01/85/162/910/AM07/DES.VI     Defer Dated Posiꬅon: Decision: Deferred.     1                    The request of the firm for fixaꬅon of SION for “Demerara Sugar” against import of Cane  Sugar   Refined was considered by the NC‐meeꬅng  as per the agenda. 2                                       It was  noted  that  Directorate  of  Sugar  had  been  requested  to  provide  detailed  technical characterisꬅcs of imported inputs i.e.,  Cane Sugar Refined and the export item i.e., Demerara Sugar. Directorate of Sugar has given their comments vide le塪�er No.9‐2/2005‐ES dated 24.7.2008,   but technical characterisꬅcs of Cane Sugar Refined have not been indicated. It was further noted that industry data in respect of 2‐3 companies required for SION fixaꬅon have not been furnished by Directorate  of  Sugar.  APEDA  has  already  conveyed  they  are  not  monitoring  export  of  Sugar  and therefore, they have no comments. 3                    Commi塪�ee decided that Directorate of Sugar may be requested for the following details:     ( i )  Technical characterisꬅcs of Cane Sugar Refined. (ii)  Industry  data  for  2‐3  companies  regarding  producꬅon  of  Demerara  sugar  from  Cane  Sugar Refined and its export.

2.         Representaꬅve of Directorate of Sugar explained that Invert Sugar consists of Glucose and fructose molecules obtained by the process of “inversion”   of sucrose  molecules. Invert Sugar can be made from ( a ) Raw Sugar (b) Cane Syrup, and (c) Refined Sugar. Quanꬅty of glucose/fructose in Invert Sugar varies according to the percentage of inversion.   3.         A城�er deliberaꬅng on the issue, Commi塪�ee decided to request Directorate of Sugar for the following details :   ( I ) Industry data for 2‐3 companies regarding producꬅon/export of invert Sugar.   ( ii ) Qty of input required for 100% inversion & input output raꬅo for inversion less than 100 % .   ( iii ) SION is to   fixed for three routes of producꬅon of Invert Sugar from Raw Sugar, Cane Syrup and Refined Sugar. Recommendaꬅon of Directorate of Sugar regarding input‐output raꬅo in respect of all three routes.
