Minutes of Exim Facilitation Committee (EFC)Meeting No.7/AM08 held on 31st
December, 2007 for import of Hydrogenated Vegetable oils (Vanaspati), Bakery Shortening.Margarine for 2007-2008 under Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade
Agreement (FTA)

An EFC Meeting was held on 31st December, 2007 under The Chairmanship of Shri S.K. Prasad, Additional Director General Foreign Trade to consider applications of Indian importers for import of Vanaspati/Bakery Shortening /Margarine for 4th quarter of 2007-2008 ( January – March 2008) under Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement.

2. Following officials attended the meeting.

After discussion the committee has taken the following decision:-

i. Department of Vanaspati clarified that Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Stearin (HS Code 1517.90) is not approved food product in India. Thus, the item may not be allowed for imports. Accordingly it was decided that no import of this item may be allowed under ISLFTA and Govt. of Sri Lanka may be informed accordingly.
ii. M/s Adani Wilmar Ltd., Ahmedabad has applied for 1465.8MT but the agreement is for 1396MT. Therefore, it was decided to restrict the quantity to 1396MT.
iii. M/s. Vijay Solvex Ltd., Alwar application was received in DGFT (HQ) on 28.12.2007. The firm submitted the application late. Therefore, it was decided to reject the application.

iv. M/s Foods Fats & Fertilizers Ltd., Chennai applied for 500MT Industrial margarine and 200MT Table margarine. The Committee allocated 200MT for table Margarine. For Industrial Margarine, it was decided to call for a clarification from the firm, whether, the item proposed to be imported is edible or not. Thereafter, the decision may be taken on file.

The quantity of Vanaspati / Bakery Shortening / Margarine allocated to different firms by the Committee is, reflected in the Annexure attached with the minutes. The Regional Authorities will issue import authorization to the firms immediately within 5 days subject to receipt of complete applications etc. from the firms.

The Meeting ended with vote of thanks to participants.
