Subject: Signature of Customs Official on the final Print-outs of bills of entry.

It is brought to the notice of all Importers/Exporters, Trade and Customs Brokers Association that the Duplicate Bill of Entry (Importer’s copy) and Triplicate bill of entry (Exchange Control copy) are generated through Customs EDI System after Out-Of-Charge (OOC) is given by the proper officer of Customs. Importers & CHA have approached Customs Officers in Import Shed for getting their signatures on the print-outs of Bills of Entry stating that the same are required as insisted upon by their banks for the purpose of making remittance of foreign exchange or for the purpose of CENVAT etc.

In this context, it is clarified that these print-outs are not mandatorily required to be signed by Customs officials as the same are compute! generated.

Henceforth, the signatures of Customs officers will not be appended in out-of charged Bills of Entry.
