Ref.No. GJEPC/Dimond_Charter/2021-22 01st Nov, 2021 TO: ALL DIAMOND PANEL MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL Sub: Diamond Charter Dear Members, The Gem & Jewellery Industry is one of the oldest businesses worldwide, which is still ongoing on the strong foundations of trust and moral values leading to long lasting business ethics over the years. However, with the growth of the industry, serious concerns have been raised from time to time as to ethics of doing the business. Each diamond out in the open market has to pass through many tests scrutinizing its quality and authenticity for which various laboratories certify and grade the diamond.
To protect the consumer confidence, maintain transparency and to try and prevent malpractices in the diamond and gem and jeweller industry, various bourses, trade bodies and laboratories of the Industry have put together a charter hereinafter referred to as the “Diamond Charter”. The Charter aims to regularize the process of sale, trade, testing & certificate issue. The objective of the Charter is to maintain public confidence and protecting the larger trade and the industry. This will not only enhance goodwill of the Industry but will also help to project a better image of the Indian Diamond and Gem and Jewellery Industry globally.
The Charter is drafted in consultation with lawyers and is holistic in nature. The same has been approved in the Diamond Panel Committee of GJEPC held on 29th October 2021.
