Attention of the Importers, Custom Brokers, Members of the Trade and all concern is invited to the fact that the Bureau of Indian Standards is a National Standards Body under the aegis of Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India and is engaged in standardization and conformity assessment activities under the provisions of BIS Act, 2016 and Rules & Regulations framed thereunder. 2. BIS is operating a product certification scheme (link: https://bis.gov.in/?page id=2143) for foreign manufacturers under which licences are granted to manufacturers located outside India for use of BIS Standard Mark on their products to ensure that the products under compulsory certification conforms to relevant Indian Standards.

Due to various reasons, BIS expires/cancels the licences granted after which the manufacturer is not allowed to supply products with Standard Mark. The list of all operative licences is available on BIS website: https://bis.gov.in. 4. This is to bring to the notice of all Importers, Customs Brokers & others concerned with Import of goods that the products for which the Central Government has made BIS certification compulsory through various quality control orders shall not be allowed to be imported without Standard Mark. 5. The list of such 135 products under compulsory BIS certification which shall bear Standard Mark for import in India under a valid licence is enclosed as Annexure-I. 6. This Public Notice should be considered as Standing Order for the purpose of officers and staff of APSC.
