Subject: Transition to the new edition of Harmonized Nomenclature, HS-2022 -reg.
Kind attention of all Custom officers, Staff, Customs Brokers. Exporters, Importers, Members of the Trade and other stake holders is invited to the above cited subject.
(2) In this regard, it is informed that the new (Seventh) edition of the Harmonized Nomenclature, HS-2022 shall come into the force from 1‘ January 2022. This edition has introduced some significant changes to the Harmonized System with a total of 351 of amendments at the six-digit level, covering a wide range of goods moving across borders.
(3) India, being a party to the HS convention, in order to align the first schedule of Customs Tariff Act,1975 with the HS-2022, necessary changes were brought in through the Fifth Schedule to the Finance Act, 2021, with effect from 01.01.2022.
(4) Further, in order to the transition from HS Tariff 1975 to the HS-2022. a guidance document on correlation has been prepared by CBIC. The document can be accessed under the head —‘Manuals’ under the tab — ‘Customs’ on the CBIC website. (5) All Custom officers, Staff and Trade associations/members of Customs Brokers Association are requested to take note of the same and also give a wide publicity of the HS-2022 among their members/constituents regarding the applicability of HS-2022 trom 1“ January 2022.
