Sub; Extension of time for submission of proposals to the States for declaration of eco-Sensitive zone around National Parks and Sanctuaries.

Sir, : I am directed to refer to this Ministry’s;D.O. letter No 1-9/2007-WL (pt) dated 11" December, 2012 of Secretary E & F addtessed to the Chief Secretaries of all the States and UTs, had requested to forward the proposals for notification of Ecologically Sensitive Areas for all the National Parks and Wild Life Sanctuaries, in accordance with the decision of the National Board for Wildlife.

The proposals for about 100 ESZs have been received from the states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh etc. and most of the states have intimated that their proposals are ready and are expected to be submitted in the Ministry of E & F shortly. As the process of formulation of proposals also includes consideration and approval of the state governments, several states have requested for extension of time ranging from two to six months for submission of all the proposals.

In all, it has been observed that all the states have been working diligently for formulation of the ESZ proposals and some time is required for consideration of the proposals and approval at the state government level also before submission to the ministry.

The matter has been examined in the ministry accordingly and it has been decided that an extension for a further period of 3 months, be accorded for submission of the proposals/ draft notification for Ecologically Sensitive Areas for all the National Parks and Wildlife sanctuaries of all the states. For the PAs for which proposals are not received till May 15, 2013, further action will be taken as indicated in the letter dated 11" December 2012.

This issues with the approval of competent authority.
