Sub: Submission of proposals to the States for declaration of Eco-sensitive Zones around National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.

Sir,

Reference is invited to this Ministry’s letter of even No. 1-9/2007-WL-I dated 17% May, 2013 addressed to the Chief Secretaries and Chief Wildlife Wardens of all the States and UTs, wherein this Ministry had given time till July 15", 2013 to all the States for submission of the proposals/draft notification for Ecologically Sensitive Areas around the National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries. So far, proposals in respect of about 450 protected areas have been received in this Ministry. It has now been decided by this Ministry not to extend the time limit any further and a default area of 10 km from the boundary will be the Eco-sensitive zone of such protected areas for which proposals have not been forwarded. In case of PAs for which proposals are received in MoEF, the default area of 10 km. will continue till the ESZ is finally notified. Existing regulation will continue in respect of such area.

This issues with the approval of competent authority.
