| am in receipt of letter under reference || from Conservator of Forests and Director, Rajaji requesting WII to conduct baseline survey to assess the number of tigers and leopards using the forest between the barrage and Chaurasi kutia as part of compliance of condition for diversion of 6.07 ha of forest land from Rajaji National Park for establishment of Ayush Gram, Uttarakhand. This condition has been communicated to CVWLW/, Uttarakhand vide your letter under reference (1).

In this regard | would like to draw your kind attention to Para 2 [4.1 (25)] of the minutes of the 21*' meeting of the Standing Committee of NBWL. As may be seen from the minutes, the committee took on board the report of Dr. A.J.T. Johnsingh and desired that the conditions proposed in the report should be brief, focused and explicit. Accordingly vide my letter No.DWII/0149/2010 dated 10" April 2011 | reviewed the report. With a view to enhance the ecological integrity of Rajaji National Park, | picked out three issues which required focussed attention. The copy of this letter was also sent to Dr. A.J.T. Johnsingh who agreed to my suggestion. In view of above the study of carrying out study for baseline information of tigers and leopards using the forest between barrage and Chaurasi Kutia is not required. Madam,

Vide your reference above, it has been desired that as per decision taken in the meeting of Standing committee of National Board for Wildlife held on 24.1.2011, the conditions proposed in the joint report submitted by Dr. A.J.T. Johnsingh and the representative of Wildlife Institute of India should be reviewed and it should be made brief, focused, and enplicit. Accordingly the report has been reviewed by the undersigned and conditions stipulated for have been made focused and enplicit as indicated here under:

  1. On completion of the Bridge across the Ganges at Garud Chatti the entire vehicular traffic on Haridwar-Chilla-~-Kunaun-Lakshman Jhula along the east bank of the Ganges should be stopped.

  2. With a view to consolidate the connectivity in the Corbett-Rajaji Landscape, administrative control of Shyampur range should be brought under Chief Wildlife Warden by making it part of Rajaji National Park.

  3. Uttarakhand Government is already taking steps for proper relocation and rehabilitation of Gujjars from Rajaji National Park. Action should be initiated for relocating Gujjar Settlements from Gohri Range of Rajaji National Park.
