Subject:- Prohibits to Import, manufacture, sale, distribution and use in any food producing animal rearing system of drug formulations containing "Chloramphenicol or Nitrofurans drugs” with immediate effect-reg.
Sir,
As you aware, reports have appeared from time to time about the use of drug formulations containing Chloramphenicol or Nitrofurans drugs are likely to involve risk in any food producing animal rearing system in the country.
Accordingly, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India have taken up the matter and issued Notification on dated- 12th March, 2025 S.O. 1158(E). New Delhi (Copy of notification attached
for reference).
In light of recent measures as above, you are requested to sensitize your inspectorate staff to keep strict vigil on manufacture, sale and distribution of Chloramphenicol and its formulations , Nitrofuran and its formulations to prevent use in any food producing animal rearing system and to take necessary action under the provisions of the D&C Act &Rules .
Details of action taken in the matter may please be forwarded to this office for further action.
