Subject:- Prohibits to manufacture, sale and distribution and use of drug “Nimesulide and its formulation for animal use” with immediate effect-reg. Sir, As you aware, reports have appeared from time to time about the use of drug formulations containing Nimesulide are likely to involve risk to animals and vulture population in the country.

Hon'ble High Court of Delhi in the hearing vide order dated-01.09.2023 of case W.P. (C) 7493/2022&CM APPL. 22886/2022 Gaurav Kumar Bansal Vs Union of India directed to furnish the reason as to why the drug 'Nimesulide’ has not been banned.

Accordingly, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India has taken up the matter and issue NOTIFICATION vide S.O. 5633(E) 30th December, 2024 New Delhi.

In light of recent measures as above, you are requested to sensitize your inspectorate staff to keep strict vigil on manufacture, sale and distribution of drug in the country and take all regulatory measures to ensure that drug is not illegally manufactured/sold and its misuse in the animals is prevented. Details of action taken in the matter may please be forwarded to this office for further action.
