01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 31,00,204 companies were registered in the country as on 31st March 2026, of which 67% (20,78,594) companies stand active. There is increase of 0.15% in the total proportion of active companies w.r.t registered companies when compared to February 2026. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 39% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 61% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Service has highest number of Active companies (25%) followed by Manufacturing (19%), Community, personal and Social Services and Trading (15% and 14% respectively). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Business Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as compared to February 2026. Among the Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir showed a rise of 154 number of companies in contrast to February 2026. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in March 2026 New Registration of Companies during FY 25-26 During the FY 2025-26 (i.e., from 1st April, 2025 to 31st March, 2026), a total of 2,47,755 companies were registered with the collective Paid Up capital of Rs 45,619.96 crore. Out of them 2,42,631 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with paid up capital of Rs. 45,566.98 crores; 5,124 companies Limited by Guarantees with Paid Up capital of Rs. 52.98 crores (Table-5). It is observed that 23% of companies were registered with the Paid-Up capital of less than 1 lakh during the year. (Table-6) Sector–wise data reveals that Service Sector (72%) continues to account for the maximum share of new companies followed by Industry (25%) and Agriculture (3%) (Table-7). State-wise analysis of new registered companies during the FY 2025-26 depicts that 16.8% companies were registered in Maharashtra, followed by 11.1% in Uttar Pradesh and 8.4% in Delhi.

New Registration of Companies during March 2026 A total of 22,352 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 1,566.37 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 21,737 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 1,562.74 Crore, 615 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 09) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (27%) followed by Trading (17%) Business Services (16%) and Manufacturing (15%). (Table 10).

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during March 2026 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 3,824 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 2,355 and Delhi following closely behind at 8% belonging to 1,737 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 829.60 crores. (Table 11)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In March 2026, 58,528 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in March 2026, 66% were male and the remaining 34% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 42% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 31st March 2026, a total number of 79,921 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 1,036.36 Crore.
During March 2026, a total number of 1,350 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 11.96 Crore.
Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in March 2026, 28% were registered under the head Community, personal and Social Services.

Among all States/UT, Maharashtra showed a highest number of registrations of number of new One Person Companies at 203 during March 2026.

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 29,306 active Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter January 2026 to March 2026, a total number of 4,77,355 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st March 2026. (Table 13 & 14)

About 84% of active LLPs (3,99,179 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3% (16,219 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore.

06 Foreign Company

As on 31st March 2026, there were a total of 5,329 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 62% (3,302) were Active. Of the 27 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during January 2026-March 2026, 33% in were Gujarat, 19% each in Delhi and Maharashtra, 11% in Haryana, 7% each in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and 4% in Punjab. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 55% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, personal and Social Services’. (Table 16)
