01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 30,77,852 companies were registered in the country as on 28th February 2026, of which 67% (20,58,847) companies stand active. There is increase of 0.2% in the total proportion of active companies w.r.t registered companies when compared to January 2026. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 39% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 61% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2 and 3)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Service has highest number of Active companies (25%) followed by Manufacturing (19%), Community, personal and Social Services and Trading (15% and 14%). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

As of 28th February 2026, data on active directors across One Person Companies (OPCs), Private Companies, and Public Companies shows that approximately 71% are male and 28.5% are female, with transgender individuals making up a very small proportion (0.007%). Among company types, Private Companies have the highest share of female directors at 29%, while Public Companies have 20%. In OPCs, female members constitute 27.4% of the total.

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (19%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (13%) and Uttar Pradesh (9%). An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as compared to January 2026. Among the Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir showed a rise of 174 number of companies in contrast to January 2026. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in February 2026
New Registration of Companies during February 2026. A total of 24,140 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 983.46 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 23,600 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 982.70 Crore, 540 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 05) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (27%) followed by Transport, storage and Communication (17%), Business Services (16%) and Manufacturing (15%). State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that received the highest number of new registrations during February 2026 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 3,995 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 12% coming in at 2,836 and Delhi following closely behind at 8% belonging to 1,995

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In February 2026, 60,400 Director Identification Numbers were registered. Out of the total number of directors registered in India in February 2026, 67% were male and the remaining 33% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 43% of new directors registered belong to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 28th February 2026, a total number of 78,727 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs 1015.69 Crore.
During February 2026, a total number of 1,353 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 13.45 Crore.

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 27,768 active Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter December 2025 to February 2026, a total number of 4,68,826 LLPs were active in the country as of 28th February 2026. (Table 09 & 10)

About 84% of active LLPs (3,91,820 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3% (15,984 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 10) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 28th February 2026 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 75% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 23% and 2% respectively. 06 Foreign Company

As on 28th February 2026, there were a total of 5,319 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 62% (3,298) were Active. Of the 27 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during December 2025 to February 2026, 26% were registered in Gujarat, 22% in Maharashtra , 15% in Tamil Nadu, 11% each were registered in Delhi, Haryana and Karnataka and 4% were registered in West Bengal. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 59% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, personal and Social Services’. (Table 12)
