01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 29,51,311 companies were registered in the country as on 31st August 2025, of which 66% (19,40,681) companies stand active. There is increase of 0.20% in the total proportion of active companies w.r.t registered companies when compared to July 2025. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 39% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 61% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Service has highest number of Active companies (26%) followed by Manufacturing (19%), Community, personal and Social Services (14%). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

As of 31st August 2025, data on active directors across One Person Companies (OPCs), Private Companies, and Public Companies shows that 72% are male and 28% are female, with transgender individuals making up a very small proportion (0.007%). Among company types, Private Companies have the highest share of female directors at 29%, while Public Companies have 20%. In OPCs, female members constitute 27.3% of the total.

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (19%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (13%) and Uttar Pradesh (9%). An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as compared to July 2025. Among the Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir showed a rise of 149 number of companies in contrast to July 2025. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in August 2025
New Registration of Companies during August 2025 A total of 20,167 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 1,017.44 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 19,749 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 1,016.55 Crore, 418 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 05) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (26%) followed by Trading (17%), Business Services (16%) and Manufacturing (15%). (Table 06).

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during August 2025 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 3,428 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 2,238 and Delhi following closely behind at 9% belonging to 1,749 Number of Companies

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In August 2025, 48,183 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in August 2025, 68% were male and the remaining 32% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 41% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 31st August 2025, a total number of 71,745 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 937.24 Crore.
During August 2025, a total number of 1,256 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 11.29 Crore.

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 21,815 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter June 2025 to August 2025, a total number of 4,22,251 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st August 2025. (Table 09 & 10)

About 83% of active LLPs (3,50,713 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 4% (14,902 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore.

06 Foreign Company

As on 31st August 2025, there were a total of 5,267 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 62% (3,280) were Active. Of the 20 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during June 2025- August 2025, 25% were registered in Delhi, 25% were registered in Maharashtra, 20% were registered in Karnataka, and approximately 5% each in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 40% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, personal and Social Services’. (Table 12)
