01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 28,96,943 companies were registered in the country as on 31st May 2025, of which 65% (18,90,305) companies stand active. There is increase of 0.20% in the total proportion of active companies w.r.t registered companies when compared to April 2025. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 38% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 62% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Service has highest number of Active companies (26%) followed by Manufacturing (19%), Trading and Community, personal and Social Services (13% each). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as compared to April 2025. Among the Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir showed a rise of 112 number of companies in contrast to April 2025. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in May 2025
New Registration of Companies during May 2025 A total of 20,718 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 1,176.28 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 20,410 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 1,175.65 Crore, 308 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 05) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (27%) followed by Trading (17%), Manufacturing and Business Services (15%) each. State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during May 2025 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 3,458 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 2,379 and Delhi following closely behind at 9% belonging to 1,858 companies with

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In May 2025, 48,942 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in May 2025, 67% were male and the remaining 33% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 42% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 31st May 2025, a total number of 68,501 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 908.87 Crore.
During May 2025, a total number of 1,414 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs.11.57Crore.
Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in May 2025, 31% were registered under the head Community, personal & Social Services. (Table 08)

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 24,248 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter March 2025 to May 2025, a total number of 4,01,809 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st May 2025. (Table 09 & 10)

About 83% of active LLPs (3,32,878 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 4% (14,368 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 10) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 31st May 2025 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. 06 Foreign Company

As on 31st May 2025, there were a total of 5,247 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 63% (3,293) were Active. Of the 28 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during March 2025-May 2025, 21% in Karnataka, 18% were registered in Haryana and Maharashtra, 14% were registered in Gujarat, 11% in Uttar Pradesh, 7% in Telangana and 4% each in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 61% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, personal and Social Services’. (Table 12)
