01 Overviewof the Corporate Sector

A total number of 28,31,292 companies were registered in the country as on 28th February, 2025, of which 65% (18,33,170) companies stand active. There is decrease of 0.03% in the total proportion of active companies w.r.t registered companies when compared to January 2025. (Table 1)
Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 39% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 61% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been has highest number of Active companies (27%) followed by Manufacturing (20%), Trading and Community, Personal and Social Services (13% each). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal and Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as compared to January 2025. Among the Union territories, Jammu and Kashmir showed a rise of 133 number of companies in contrast to January 2025. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in February 2025 New Registration of Companies A total of 17,679 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 939.50 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 17,430 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 938.94 Crore, 249 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (27%) followed by Trading (17%) and Business Services (15%). (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during February 2025 were Maharashtra with 18% which amounts to 3,145 corporate, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 1,858 and Delhi closely behind at 9% with 1,559 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 341.56 crores of all three states. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In February 2025, 42,464 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in February 2025, 67% were male and the remaining 33% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 42% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 28th February, 2025, a total number of 64,832 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 860.97 Crore.
During February 2025, a total number of 1092 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 10.31 Crore. Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in February 2025 31% were registered under the head Community, personal and Social Services. 05 Limited Liability Partnership With an increase of new 17,358 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter December 2024 to February 2025, a total number of 3,79,945 LLPs were active in the country as of 28th February 2025. (Table 9 & 10)

(Table 10) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 28th February 2025 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74.52% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 23.71% and 1.76% respectively. (Table 11)

06 Foreign Company

As on 28th February 2025, there were a total of 5,219 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 63% (3,280) were Active. Of the 14 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during December 2024 - February 2025, 28.57% were established in Delhi, 14.29% in Haryana and Tamil Nadu each, 7.14% in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Telangana each. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 71.43% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, Personal and social services’, 14.29% as Trading and Manufacturing (Machinery and Equipments) each. (Table 12)
