01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 25,86,341 companies were registered in the country as on 31st October 2023, of which 63% (16,28,791) companies stands active. There is increase of 0.18% in the total number of active companies as compared to September 2023. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 96% of the total companies with 37% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (4%) but comprise 63% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been has highest number of Active companies (29%) followed by Manufacturing (20%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (11%). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

*CP&S - Community, Personal and Social Services, *Agri & Allied - Agriculture and Allied Activities, *RE&R - Real Estate and Renting, *TS&C – Transport, Storage and Communications, *EG&WS - Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Companies, *M&Q - Mining and Quarrying Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (19%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka as compared to September 2023. Among the Union territories, Jammu & Kashmir showed a rise of 110 number of companies in contrast to September 2023. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in October 2023
New Registration of Companies A total of 15,603 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 687.61 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 15,485 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 687.53 Crore, 118 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (26%) followed by Trading, Business Services (16%) each and Manufacturing (14%). (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during October 2023 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 2,688 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 1,787 and Delhi following closely behind at 9% belonging to 1,457 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 334.15 crores. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In October 2023, 38,678 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in October 2023, 69% were male and the remaining 31% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 44% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 31st October 2023, a total number of 51,829 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 666.81 Crore.
During October 2023, a total number of 1042 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 6.91 Crore.
Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in October 2023 34% were registered under the head Community, personal & Social Services. (Table 8)

05 Limited Liability Partnership
With an increase of new 14,125 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter Aug 2023 to Oct 2023, a total number of 3,02,347 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st October 2023. (Table 11 & 12)

*CP&S - Community, Personal and Social Services, *Agri & Allied - Agriculture and Allied Activities, *RE&R - Real Estate and Renting, *TS&C – Transport, Storage and Communications, *EG&WS - Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Companies, *M&Q - Mining and Quarrying About 82% of active LLPs (2,46,791 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 4% (11,608 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 12) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 31st October 2023 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. (Table 11)

06 Foreign Company

As on 31st October 2023, there were a total of 5,134 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 64% (3,287) were Active. Of the 11 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during Aug 2023- Oct 2023, 45% were established in Maharashtra, 27% in Delhi, and 9% each in Gujarat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 73% of the companies can be classified as 'Community, Personal and social services’. (Table 14)
