01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 25,24,960 companies were registered in the country as on 30th June 2023, of which 62% (15,77,165) companies stands active. There is increase of 0.19% in the total number of active companies as compared to May 2023. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 95% of the total companies with 36% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (5%) but comprise 64% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been has highest number of Active companies (29%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (10%). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Business Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

Among the Union territories, Delhi showed a rise of 1,284 number of companies in contrast to May 2023. (Table 4)

03 New Registration in June 2023
New Registration of Companies A total of 13,685 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 1181 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 13,596 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 1179 Crore, 89 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (27%) followed by Trading (15%) Business Services (14%) and Agriculture and Allied Activities (7%). (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during June 2023 were Maharashtra with 17% which amounts to 2,352 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 1,566 and Delhi following closely behind at 10% belonging to 1,309 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 321 crore.

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In June 2023 32,092 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of the total number of directors registered in India in June 2023, 68.06% were male and the remaining 31.92% were female and 0.015% were transgender. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 44% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old, of which, 42.21% were male and 47.56%female. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As on 30th June 2023, a total number of 48,312 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 637 Crore. (Table 8) During June 2023, a total number of 734 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 7.1 Crore.
Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in June 2023 31% were registered under the head Community, personal & Social Services.

05 Limited Liability Partnership
With an increase of new 13,761 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter April 2023 to June 2023, a total number of 2,83,350 LLPs were active in the country as of 30th June 2023. (Table 9 & 10)

*CP&S - Community, Personal and Social Services, *Agri & Allied - Agriculture and Allied Activities, *RE&R - Real Estate and Renting, *TS&C – Transport, Storage and Communications, *EG&WS - Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Companies, *M&Q - Mining and Quarrying About 81.22% of active LLPs (2,30,139 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3.98% (11,284 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 10) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 30th June 2023 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. (Table 11)

06 Foreign Company

As on 30th June 2023, there were a total of 5,122 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 64% (3,275) were Active. Of the 21 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during April 2023-June 2023, 24% each were established in Maharashtra & Delhi followed by 19% in Gujrat, 14% in Tamil Nadu and 10% each in Karnataka & Uttar-Pradesh. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 17% of the companies can be classified as 'Business Services’. (Table 12)
