01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 24,64,601 companies were registered in the country as on 28th February 2023, of which 62% (15,19,448) companies stands active. There is an increase of 0.03% in the total number of active companies as compared to January 2023. (Table 1) Private limited companies account for 95% of the total companies with 36% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (5%) but comprise 64% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 2)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been has highest number of Active companies (30%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (10%). It is also observed that Service Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies, followed by Industry Sector and Agriculture Sector. In the Service Sector, Community, personal & Social Services Sector showed the maximum rise in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

CP&S - Community, Personal and Social Services, *Agri & Allied - Agriculture and Allied Activities, *RE&R - Real Estate and Renting, *TS&C – Transport, Storage and Communications, *EG&WS - Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Companies, *M&Q - Mining and Quarrying Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (19%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). An increase in the number of Active Companies is witnessed in the states of, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh as compared to January 2023. Among the Union territories, Chandigarh showed a rise of 17 Companies in contrast to January 2023. 03 New Registration in February 2023
New Registration of Companies
A total of 2,818 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 262.25 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 2,814 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 262.25 Crore, 4 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Community, personal & Social Services (22%) Manufacturing (17%) Trading (16%) Business Services (15%) followed by Construction (7%) (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations during February 2023 were Maharashtra with 19% which amounts to 536 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11% coming in at 324 and Delhi following closely behind at 10% belonging to 268 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 68.62 crore. New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In February 2023, 16,328 Director Identification Numbers were registered, out of which 98% were in use by Indian nationals and the remaining 2% were in use by Foreign nationals.

Out of the total number of directors registered in India in February 2023, 68.89% were male and the remaining 31.09% were female and 0.02% were transgender. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 44% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old. Furthermore, 9% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company
As on 28th February 2023, a total number of 45,491 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 610.85 Crore. (Table 8) During February 2023, a total number of 82 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 1.46 Crore.
Out of total Active number of One Person companies registered in February 2023 34% were registered under the head Business Services.

Among all States/UT, Maharashtra showed a rise of 28 in the number of new One Person Companies during February 2023.

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 9,443 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter December 2022 to February 2023, a total number of
were active in the country as of 28th February 2023. (Table 9 & 10)

*CP&S - Community, Personal and Social Services, *Agri & Allied - Agriculture and Allied Activities, *RE&R - Real Estate and Renting, *TS&C – Transport, Storage and Communications, *EG&WS - Electricity, Gas and Water Supply Companies, *M&Q - Mining and Quarrying About 80.88% of active LLPs (2,15,385 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 4.11% (10,940 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 10) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 28th February 2023 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. (Table 11)

06 Foreign Company

As on 28th February 2023, there were a total of 5,098 foreign companies registered in India. Out of these, 64% (3,251) were Active. Of the 12 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during Decembers 2022-February 2023, 25% were established in Maharashtra, 17% each in Delhi Karnataka, Gujrat and Tamil Nadu, 8% in Haryana. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 59% of the companies can be classified as 'Business Services’. (Table 12)
