01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 24,10,085 companies were registered in the country as on 30th September 2022, of which 62.1% companies stands active. An insignificant increase of 0.3% in the total number of active companies as compared to August 2022. (Table 1) The data shows that most companies in India are Private Limited companies, that account for 95% of the total companies with 38% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (5%) but comprise 62% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 3)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been the bright spot throughout the year and has highest number of Active companies (30%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (9%). It is also observed that Agriculture Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies followed by Service and Industry sector as compared to August 2022. In the Service Sector, Finance Sector showed a small rise of 0.9% in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (19%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). Leh & Ladakh witnessed the maximum rise of 5.6% in the number of active companies followed by Lakshadweep and Arunachal Pradesh at 4.4% and 3.1% respectively as compared to August 2022. 03 New Registration in September 2022
New Registration of Companies A total of 13,542 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 753.05 Crore. All the new companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 753.05 Crore. There was an overall decrease of 6.42% in the number of new registrations in September 2022 when compared to August 2022. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Business Services (26%) followed by Manufacturing (19%), Community, personal & Social Services (14%) and Trading (12%). The textile and wood industry observed a rise in the number of registrations in contrast to August 2022. (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that Union Territories, Andaman & Nicobar and Leh & Ladakh have started gaining momentum in terms of registration of 5 and 4 new companies respectively. The top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations September 2022 were Maharashtra with 17.74% which amounts to 2,402 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 11.15% coming in at 1,510 and Delhi following closely behind at 9.64% belonging to 1,306 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 373.37 crore. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In September 2022, 30,016 Director Identification Numbers were registered out of which 98% were in use by Indian nationals and the remaining 2% were in use by Foreign nationals. Additionally, 186 DINs were deactivated. (Table 8)

Out of the total number of directors registered in India in September 2022, 69% were male and the remaining 31% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 43% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old, of which, 66% were male and 34% female. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

Maharashtra witnessed the highest, i.e., 16% of the total registrations of Directors. North-Eastern states had 445 director registrations. (Table 9)

04 One Person Company

As per the recent data, opportunities given to small companies and entrepreneurs by the Government of India has proven to be beneficial for them. Till 30th September 2022, a total number of 45,140 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 609.02 Crore. (Table 10) Economic Sector-wise classification shows a significant rise of 300% in the registration of One Person Companies in Electricity, Gas and Water Supply sector in September 2022 over August 2022.

During September 2022, a total number of 836 One Person Companies were registered with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 7.60 Crore. Among all States/UT, the number of new One Person Companies doubled in Mizoram during September 2022 as compared to August 2022. Page 8 of 21

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 10,681 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter July 2022 to September 2022, a total number of 2,55,286 LLPs were active in the country as of 30th September 2022. (Table 11 & 12)

About 84.41% of active LLPs (2,15,499 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3.01% (7,694 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 12) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 30th September 2022 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. 06 Foreign Company

As on 30th September 2022, there were a total of 5080 foreign companies were registered in India. Out of these, 65% were Active. Of the 17 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during July 2022- September 2022, 35% were established in Maharashtra, 29% in Haryana, 18% in Delhi, and 6% each in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 65% of the companies can be classified as 'Business Services’. (Table 14)

During September 2022, 14% each of the foreign companies were established as Branch Office to perform the business operations as that of parent company and as Project Office to execute a particular project in India and 72% of the new registrations of the foreign companies were established as Liason Office to act as the representative.

07 Miscellaneous

 In September 2022, a total of 2,33,719 forms were filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Of which, 42,749 AOC-4 forms were filed, followed by 33,557 ADT-1, 32,982 MGT-7A, 31,234 DIR-12 and 29,979 MGT-14. (Table 15)

 During September 2022, a total of 2,318 companies were struck off, of which 610 companies’ names were removed from the Register of Companies u/s 248 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and 1,708 applications were received from companies to strike off their names from the register.

 MCA facilitates its registered users to login and view/download all the forms filed by the company. 2,94,251 documents were viewed/downloaded by the users in September 2022.

 During September 2022, a total of 3,81,571 Non-STP1 forms were received. Of which, 3,77,505 (98.9%) were accepted and 4,066 (1.1%) were rejected. (Table 16)

 A total of 70,939 Public Companies and 14,25,511 Private Companies were active till 30th September 2022, after taking into account 42 Private Companies which were converted to Public Companies and 66 Public Companies that were converted to Private Companies during September 2022.
