01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 23,82,078 companies were registered in the country as on 31st July 2022, of which 62.8% companies stands active. An increase in the number of companies under the process of striking off during July 2022, which has also conversely led to a 0.9% increase in the total number of active companies when compared to June 2022. (Table 1) The data shows that most companies in India are Private Limited companies, that account for 95% of the total companies with 38% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (5%) but comprise 62% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 3)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been the bright spot throughout the year and has highest number of Active companies (30%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (9%). It is also observed that Agriculture Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies followed by Services and Industry Sector as compared to June 2022. In the Service Sector, Community, Personal & Social Services showed a rise of 1.57% in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (20%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). An upward trend of more than 1.5% is observed for states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Goa and Jammu & Kashmir as compared to June 2022. 03 New Registration in July 2022
New Registration of Companies A total of 15,404 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 826.82 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 15,301 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 826.68 Crore, 103 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 0.14 Crore. There was an overall decrease of 2.66% in the number of new registrations in July 2022 when compared to June 2022. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Business Services (26%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Community, personal & Social Services (14%) and Trading (12%). Among the Industrial sector, Mining & Quarrying companies observed a rise of 17.1% while in the Service Sector, Insurance witnessed a remarkable growth of 71.4% in July 2022 in contrast to June 2022.

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that Union Territories, Andaman & Nicobar and Puducherry have started gaining momentum in terms of registration of 4 and 11 new companies respectively. The top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations in July 2022 were Maharashtra with 18.68% which amounts to 2,878 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 10.48% coming in at 1,614 and Delhi following closely behind at 9.8% belonging to 1,509 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 419.61 crore. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In July 2022, 31,760 Director Identification Numbers were registered out of which 98% were in use by Indian nationals and the remaining 2% were in use by Foreign nationals. Additionally, 177 DINs were deactivated. (Table 8)

Out of the total number of directors registered in India in July 2022, 70% were male and the remaining 30% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 43% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old, of which, 67% were male and 33% female. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years. While Maharashtra witnessed 16% of the total registrations of Directors and North-Eastern states had

04 One Person Company

As per the recent data, opportunities given to small companies and entrepreneurs by the Government of India has proven to be beneficial for them. Till 31st July 2022, a total number of 46,234 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 614.32 Crore. (Table 10) Economic Sector-wise classification shows a significant rise of 200% in the registration of One Person Companies in Mining & Quarrying and Finance Sector of One Person Companies in July 2022 over June 2022.

05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 9,428 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter May 2022 to July 2022, a total number of 2,48,669 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st July 2022. (Table 11 & 12) About 84.32% of active LLPs (2,09,690 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3.04% (7,570 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 12) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 31st July 2022 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. (Table 13)

06 Foreign Company

As on 31st July 2022, there were a total of 5068 foreign companies were registered in India. Out of these, 65% were Active. Of the 11 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during May 2022-July 2022, 46% in Maharashtra, 36% were established in Haryana, 9% each in Delhi and West Bengal. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 45% of the companies can be classified as 'Business Services'. (Table 14)

During July 2022, 60% of the new registrations of the foreign companies were established as Liaison Office to act as the representative and 20% each as Project Office and Other Office to execute a particular project in India.

07 Miscellaneous

 In July 2022, a total of 1,57,324 forms were filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Of which, 28,037 DIR-12 forms were filed, followed by 25,527 DPT-3, 21,447 CHG-1, 19,745 MGT-14, and 12,505 ADT-1. (Table 15)

 During July 2022, a total of 1,205 companies were struck off, of which 271 companies’ names were removed from the Register of Companies u/s 248 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and 934 applications were received from companies to strike off their names from the register.

 MCA facilitates its registered users to login and view/download all the forms filed by the company. 3,26,325 documents were viewed/downloaded by the users in July 2022.

 During July 2022, a total of 4,57,067 Non-STP1 forms were received. Of which, 4,53,167 (99.1%) were accepted and 3,900 (0.85%) were rejected. (Table 16)

 A total of 70,712 Public Companies and 14,24,402 Private Companies were active till 31st July 2022, after taking into account 48 Private Companies which were converted to Public Companies and 63 Public Companies that were converted to Private Companies during July 2022.

 Listing Status has changed for 7 companies from Unlisted to Listed and for 5 companies from Listed to Unlisted.
