01 Overview of the Corporate Sector

A total number of 23,92,138 companies were registered in the country as on 31st August 2022, of which 62.4% companies stands active. Although, an increase in the number of companies under the process of striking off during August 2022 led to an insignificant decrease of 0.2% in the total number of active companies as compared to July 2022. (Table 1) The data shows that most companies in India are Private Limited companies, that account for 95% of the total companies with 38% of the total Paid-up Capital. In comparison, Public Limited companies are smaller in number (5%) but comprise 62% of the total Paid-up Capital. (Table 3)

Economic Sector-wise classification (NIC-2004) reveals that the Business Services has been the bright spot throughout the year and has highest number of Active companies (30%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (9%). It is also observed that Agriculture Sector saw the maximum increase in the total number of Active Companies where as Industry and Service sector saw a decline as compared to July 2022. In the Service Sector, Finance Sector showed a small rise of 0.5% in the number of Active Companies. (Table 3).

Amongst the 37 States/UT, Maharashtra (20%) continues to be the state with highest number of Active Companies, followed by Delhi (15%) and West Bengal (9%). An upward trend of more than 1% is observed for states such as Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram as well as Union territories such as Leh & Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir as compared to July 2022. 03 New Registration in August 2022
New Registration of Companies A total of 14,471 companies were registered with a collective Paid-up Capital of Rs. 871.11 Crore. Out of the total new registrations, 14,388 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Shares with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 871.08 Crore, 83 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee with a Paid-Up Capital of Rs. 0.03 Crore. There was an overall decrease of 6.06% in the number of new registrations in August 2022 when compared to July 2022. (Table 5) Economic-activity wise classification of new companies registered reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Business Services (26%) followed by Manufacturing (20%), Community, personal & Social Services (14%) and Trading (12%). Among the Service sector, Transport, Storage & Communications observed a rise of 119% in contrast to July 2022. (Table 6)

State/UT-Wise Analysis of new registered companies shows that Union Territories, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Puducherry have started gaining momentum in terms of registration of 5 and 22 new companies respectively. The top three states that receive the highest number of new registrations in August 2022 were Maharashtra with 18.38% which amounts to 2,660 corporates, Uttar Pradesh with 10.18% coming in at 1,473 and Delhi following closely behind at 9.52% belonging to 1,378 companies with a collective paid-up capital of Rs. 217.53 crore. (Table 7)

New Registration of Director Identification Number (DIN)

In August 2022, 31,678 Director Identification Numbers were registered out of which 98% were in use by Indian nationals and the remaining 2% were in use by Foreign nationals. Additionally, 179 DINs were deactivated. (Table 8)

Out of the total number of directors registered in India in August 2022, 70% were male and the remaining 30% were female. A close analysis on Indian Directors revealed that 43% of new directors registered belongs to age 31-45 years old, of which, 67% were male and 33% female. Furthermore, 7% of the new director registrations were older than 60 years.

04 One Person Company

As per the recent data, opportunities given to small companies and entrepreneurs by the Government of India has proven to be beneficial for them. Till 31st August 2022, a total number of 45,577 One Person Companies were active with a collective Paid up capital of Rs. 607.41 Crore. 05 Limited Liability Partnership

With an increase of new 10,592 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) during the quarter June 2022 to August 2022, a total number of 2,52,460 LLPs were active in the country as of 31st August 2022. (Table 11 & 12) About 84.38% of active LLPs (2,13,030 in number) have an obligation of contribution less than or equal to Rs. 5 lakhs, and only about 3.03% (7,641 in number) of LLPs have the obligation of contribution above Rs.1 crore. (Table 12) Broader economic sector-wise classification of active LLPs as on 31st August 2022 reveals that the Service sector continues to account for maximum registrations with 74% LLPs, followed by Industry and Agriculture sectors accounting for 24% and 2% respectively. (Table 13)

06 Foreign Company

As on 31st August 2022, there were a total of 5073 foreign companies were registered in India. Out of these, 65% were Active. Of the 14 new overseas business entities that were registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs during June 2022-August 2022, 43% in Maharashtra, 36% were established in Haryana, 14% in West Bengal and 7% in Delhi. When looking at the economic activity classification, it was revealed that 57.4% of the companies can be classified as 'Business Services’. (Table 14)

During August 2022, 40% of the foreign companies were established as Branch Office to perform the business operations as that of parent company, 40% each as Project Office to execute a particular project in India and 20% of the new registrations of the foreign companies were established as Liason Office to act as the representative.

07 Miscellaneous

 In August 2022, a total of 1,50,330 forms were filed with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Of which, 29,131 DIR-12 forms were filed, followed by 22,140 MGT-14, 16,667 ADT-1, 15,828 AOC-4, and 12,320 MGT-7A. (Table 15)

 During August 2022, a total of 1,327 companies were struck off, of which 352 companies’ names were removed from the Register of Companies u/s 248 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and 975 applications were received from companies to strike off their names from the register.

 MCA facilitates its registered users to login and view/download all the forms filed by the company. 2,84,347 documents were viewed/downloaded by the users in August 2022.

 During August 2022, a total of 5,44,667 Non-STP1 forms were received. Of which, 5,40,873 (99.3%) were accepted and 3,794 (0.7%) were rejected. (Table 16)

 A total of 70,773 Public Companies and 14,20,980 Private Companies were active till 31st August 2022, after taking into account 66 Private Companies which were converted to Public Companies and 56 Public Companies that were converted to Private Companies during August 2022.
