I. SUMMARY AS ON 31st JANUARY 2022
The total number of companies registered in the country stands at 22,88,681. Of them, 14,34,848 companies were Active and 7,91,908 companies were Closed. 2,370 companies were assigned dormant status as per Companies Act, 2013; 7,007 were under liquidation; 52,548 companies were in the process of striking-off. Active in progress status is now invalid and companies under this category, lie under Active Status. 1. Out of the 14,34,848 Active Companies, 14,25,345 were Limited by Shares; 9,201 were Limited by Guarantee and 302 were Unlimited Companies. Out of the Companies Limited by Shares, 67,409 were Public and 13,57,936 were Private. Among the Public Limited Companies, 6,755 were Listed. Private Limited Companies comprise of 42,850 One Person Companies.
Out of the 7,91,908 Closed Companies, 11,188 companies were Liquidated/Dissolved; 7,30,700 companies were declared Defunct. 28,573 companies were Amalgamated/Merged with other companies; 16,571 companies were converted to Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) and 4,876 were converted to LLP and Dissolved
(Table-1.1 and 1.2).

State/UT-wise distribution of registered companies indicates that Maharashtra has the highest number of companies (20%), followed by Delhi (16%) and West Bengal (10%). Amongst ‘Active Companies’, Maharashtra has the maximum number of Active Companies (20%), followed by Delhi (16%) and West Bengal (9%) (Table-1.3).
Economic-activity wise NIC-2004 classification of Active Companies reveals that highest number of companies were in Business Services1 (31%) followed by Manufacturing (20%), Trading (13%) and Community, Personal and Social Services (8%) (Table-1.4 and Chart 1.1).

- Till 31st January 2022, a total number of 42,850 One Person Companies (OPCs) were registered with collective authorized capital of Rs. 1,461.41 Crore. Economic activity wise NIC 2004 classification of OPCs up to 31st January 2022 reveals that the highest number of OPCs were in Business Services (48%) followed by Manufacturing (14%), Community, Personal & Social Services (13%) and Trading (12%) (Chart 2.1).
During the month of January 2022, a total of 663 OPCs were registered with authorized capital of Rs. 26.74 crore. Economic activity wise classification of OPC during the month reveals that highest number of 257 OPCs were registered in Business Services, followed by 128 in Manufacturing, 93 in Trading, and 68 in Community, Personal & Social Services (Table 2.1).

III. TREND OF REGISTRATION OF NEW COMPANIES
- An analysis of registration of new companies during January 2020 to January 2022
indicates that monthly registration of companies is lowest in April 2020. It has
increased rapidly showing a growth of 283% in January 2022 as compared to first
reference point (April 2020).
A total of 12,182 companies were registered in January 2022 as compared to 10,924 in January 2021. A decrease (8.48%) in registration of companies has been witnessed in January 2022 over December 2021 (Table 3.1 and Chart 3.1).
IV. REGISTRATION OF NEW COMPANIES DURING JANUARY 2022
- A total of 12,182 companies were registered with a collective authorized capital of Rs. 3,139.25 Crore.

Shares with authorized capital of Rs. 3,139.25 Crore and 76 companies were registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee (Table-4.1).

Economic-activity wise classification of companies registered (Table-4.2 and Chart 4.1) reveals that the predominant share of companies is in Business Services (26%) followed by Manufacturing (21%), Community, personal & Social Services (14%), Trading (12%) and Agriculture and Allied Activities (9%).

It can be further observed that 2,274 (19%) companies were registered in Maharashtra, followed by 1,204 (10%) in Uttar Pradesh and 1,160 (9.52%) in Delhi (Table-4.3)

During January 2022, a total of 1,10,941 forms were filed with Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Of which, 40,622 ADT-1 forms were filed, followed by 27,276 DIR-12, 15,558 MGT-14 and 6,698 INC-22 (Table 5.1).

Analysis of new registration of DIN (Director Identification Number) indicates that during the month of January 2022, a total number of 32,439 DINs were registered, out of which 30,862 stands Active, 1,577 were Provisional. Out of the 30,862 active DINs, 30,400 belongs to Indian Nationals whereas remaining 462 belongs to Foreign Nationals. Additionally, 1 Indian DIN was Surrendered and a total of 130 Indian National DINs were de-registered during the month (Table 5.2).

Ministry of Corporate Affairs and 1,221 applications were received from companies to strike off their names from the register (Table 5.3).

MCA facilitates its registered users to login and view/download all the forms filed by the company. During January 2022, 3,43,071 documents were viewed/downloaded by the users.

During January 2022, a total of 6,16,856 Non-STP2 forms were received. Of which, 6,13,975 (99.53%) were accepted and 2,281 (0.47%) were rejected (Table 5.4).

A total of 69,748 Public Companies and 1365100 Private Companies were registered till 31st January, 2022.

32 Private Companies were converted to Public Companies and 68 Public Companies were converted to Private Companies during January 2022. Further, Listing Status has changed for 17 companies from Unlisted to Listed and for 10 companies from Listed to Unlisted.
