ICES Advisory 9/2021 – Inclusion of a new UQC for Metric Million British Thermal Unit – reg. Attention of Importers/Exporters, Custom Brokers, Trade and other stakeholders is invited to ICES Advisory No. 09/2021 dated 22.03.2021 issued by CBIC on the above subject. Reference is also invited to ICES Advisory No 29/2020 dated 17.08.2020 issued by CBIC on Streamlining of UQCs, wherein, ICES had streamlined 36 UQCs to be used as commercial UQCs in imports and exports based on the recommendations of the Board. In this regard, Public Notice Numbers 101/2020 dated 18.08.2020 issued by JNCH may also be referred. 2. Now, based on the representations received from various Natural Gas importers and further direction from the Board, a new unit - Metric Million British Thermal Unit has been added as a standard unit to the list communicated vide the above mentioned advisory number 9/2021 dated 22.03.2021. 3. Metric Million British Thermal Unit is widely associated with measurement of natural gas on the basis of energy content and is a standard unit used for commercial negotiation, invoice, ship’s ullage survey report etc. Accordingly, it has been included in the Customs EDI System also as an acceptable commercial unit. The unit quantity code to be used for this unit in the imports and exports declaration would be MBT. 4. This Public Notice should be considered as Standing Order for the purpose of officers and staff of department.
