6 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY __[Partt tl-~Sec. 3(i)} . MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion) ; NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 4th September, 2001

G.S.R. 639(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Salt Cess Act, 1953 (49 of 1953), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Salt Cess Rules, 1964, namely:-

(1) These Rules may becalled the Sait Cess (Amendment) Rules, 2001.
- (2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
In the Salt Cess Rules, 1964, -
- (a) _inrule 3, for the words “at the time when the salt is removed from the factory”, the words and figure “ in advance subject to the provisions contained in rule 5” shall be substituted;
- (b) in rule 4, for the words and figures ‘into the treasury to the credit of “II-Union Excise Duties — Salt Cess on Salt”, the words and figures ‘by way of demand draft issued by a scheduled bank, payable in favour of designated officer of the Salt Department or paid through challan to the credit of “038-Union Excise Duties - Salt Cess on Salt” directly in designated banks in advance, every fortnight’ shall be substituted;

Provided further that the said manufacturer may open an “Account current” with the Salt Officer and keep in such account, at all times, an amount sufficient in the opinion of the Commissioner to cover the amount of cess leviable on salt intended to be removed from the place of manufacture or storage during a period of fifteen days; the account current being settled by the Salt Officer at intervals not exceeding one month : .

Provided also that the Salt Officer shall scrutinize the monthly cess account in respect of the said manufacturer and make necessary entries in his record’ ;
